USANA Business Scam – Uncovering The USANA Health Sciences Opportunity

USANA business scam claims abound on the internet, but they’re mostly written by people with no direct experience with the company. This article shares an unbiased perspective on the USANA Health Sciences products and opportunity from an individual who has quite a bit of experience with USANA.

USANA Health Sciences – A Brief Review Of The Company and Products

USANA Health Sciences Inc. is a network marketing company that manufactures nutritional supplements and skin care products via a network of independent distributors. Founded in Salt Lake City in 1993 by immunologist and microbiologist Myron Wentz, the company is known to be one of the “heavyweights” in the network marketing industry, with annual sales approaching nearly one-half billion dollars in 2007.

USANA products include:

  • Essentials, USANA‘s multi-vitamin and mineral supplements;
  • Optimizers, USANA‘s line of non-essential supplements and herbal supplements;
  • Rev3 energy drink;
  • USANA Foods, which consists of meal replacement shakes and snack bars;
  • And their Natural Toothpaste and Sensé line of skin care products.

How Good Are USANA Products?

By certain accounts, USANA products are of very high quality, at least according to author and researcher Mr. Lyle MacWilliams. Mr. MacWilliams publishes the Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements, in which USANA vitamins feature prominently as being rated among the top supplements according to Mr. MacWilliams independent assessment.

Although Mr. MacWilliams does mention in the disclaimer section of the book that he and his company serve as consultants to the nutritional supplement industry, he claims no fiduciary interest in any company mentioned in his written or published works.

On a personal note, in the past I had taken the USANA supplements on a daily basis for several months at a time. While the results of such experiences are as a rule purely subjective, I can honestly say that I found the products to be as effective as any other high-quality supplements on the market. Furthermore, I noticed no unpleasant effects (stomach upset, etc.) after taking the supplements, even when taken on an empty stomach.

However, there are several comparable products that rank nearly as high as USANA products in Mr. MacWilliams book that retail for just a fraction of the monthly expense of USANA vitamins. This is what in fact led me to eventually switch brands to a comparable but more affordable product.

USANA Business Scam – A Former Distributor’s Perspective

While it can in fact be said that USANA has come under scrutiny in the U.S. and abroad recently due to accusations of questionable business practices, such accusations have resulted in virtually no regulatory or punitive actions against the company.

And, while certain individual distributors may have been shown to use undesirable recruitment practices, in my personal experience that is the fault of the distributors and not USANA. The company is clearly vehemently opposed to distributors utilizing such practices, and if anything USANA is quite reserved in its company literature and marketing materials regarding income claims and the potential for distributors achieving business success.

Why I Left USANA

The fact is, I liked the USANA products and found the company to be honest and trustworthy in every respect. However, like most all other network marketing companies that follow a traditional compensation structure, the average USANA distributor is highly unlikely to replace their income by building a USANA sales organization.

Despite the extremely high price of the USANA products, the compensation plan requires a USANA distributor to build an organizational downline of thousands of customers and distributors in order to make a substantial income with the company.

Instead, I chose to invest my time and effort pursuing a career with a direct sales company that offers higher up-front commissions along with substantial residual commissions, which allows the average person to achieve an above-average income even if they only make a few sales each month.
